MY FAVOURITE ALBUMS OF 2017

In case you didn't know, I'm a big ol' music fan and 2017 has been pretty good for new releases so I thought I'd share my favourites with you. My music taste is definitely alternative/indie/rock/pop so if that's your sort of thing too then you're in luck...

LAST YOUNG RENEGADE - ALL TIME LOW
All Time Low's seventh album is definitely different from their previous stuff but it might be my favourite one yet. It sounds more polished and mature than previous records and I feel like the writing has been completely stepped up. I can see how songs like Dirty Laundry and Life of the Party would appeal to a much wider audience than just those of us stuck in our tween emo phase. That said, there's still a distinctive All Time Low sound, especially on the louder, rowdier tracks like Nice2KnoU and Last Young Renegade so long-time fans won't be disappointed.

My favourite songs: Dirty Laundry, Life of the Party, Ground Control

WONDERFUL WONDERFUL - THE KILLERS
I'll admit, I haven't listened to The Killers since the days of Mr Brightside and Somebody Told Me but I'm so glad I listened to this. There's a bit of everything on this album and it feels like quite a rollercoaster when you listen to it in full (which I recommend). The Man is cocky, funky and catchy while Run For Cover is pretty political and a lot of fun to sing loudly to and Have All the Song Been Written? and Rut are much more subtle and contemplative. Also, Woody Harrelson features on The Calling which is fun.

My favourite songs: The Man, Run For Cover, The Calling, Tyson vs Douglas

AFTER LAUGHTER - PARAMORE
On the surface, this album is bright and poppy and fun with major 80s vibes but the lyrics are actually pretty dark. Songs like Hard Times and Rose Coloured Boy are full of catchy hooks but address some pretty sad stuff and it works so well. This is 100% my favourite Paramore album and if this is their 'new sound' I'm so excited.

My favourite songs: Hard Times, Rose Coloured Boy, Fake Happy, Pool

HARRY STYLES - HARRY STYLES
This is going to come as a surprise to anyone who knows me but oh my god this album is so good. His talent was wasted in One Direction. There's massive 70s/80s rock vibes which is definitely not what I expected but I'm so into it. Songs like Kiwi and Only Angel are loud and punchy and focus on some badass-sounding women, while Sign of the Times is a ballad inspired by the likes of David Bowie and Queen and is probably the best pop song of 2017?

My favourite songs: Sign of the Times, Kiwi, Only Angel, Carolina

PALE WAVES
Ok this one is kind of cheating because their debut album isn't actually out yet but Pale Waves were a massive discovery for me in 2017 so I couldn't not include them. Even though they've only released a handful of singles, I can tell they're going to be huge this year. Television Romance and There's a Honey are both synthy, riffy (which are definitely both words) and very The 1975-esque and New Year's Eve has been stuck in my head for about a month now. The fact that they not only have a female singer but a female drummer as well as an added bonus considering the massive lack of women in alternative music.

My favourite songs: Television Romance, There's a Honey, New Year's Eve

What were your favourite albums from this year?
