TRYING OUT: COLOURPOP

I've seen the brand Colourpop floating around the internet for a while but never really had a proper look at their products. Until, that is, one of my best pals surprised me with a couple of bits for my birthday and I was so impressed I went on their website that very night and ordered a bunch more stuff. Oops.

The Super Shock formula is one of the things Colourpop are most famous for and I can see why. The consistency is unlike anything I've ever tried before: it's a super soft, creamy powder that almost bounces back when you touch it and is insanely pigmented. The unique, creamy formula means that these products don't work very well with brushes and the best way to get the most pigment is to use your fingers like its 2009. The Super Shock Shadow in Static is a deep burgundy with slight pinky/purple shimmer - I don't have anything like this in my collection. I'm all about lazy makeup and this is so easy to swipe on and blend out and it actually looks like you've made an effort. The Super Shock Cheek in Scrumptious is a pale, pearly pink highlighter in the same formula. What I love about this is you can gently dab it on for a subtle, natural glow or really go to town by swiping it on or, even better, using a damp beauty blender and it becomes a truly blinding highlight.

I know everyone raves about the liquid lipsticks from Colourpop but it was the Lippie Stix that intrigued me. They're a traditional lipstick formula but in a thinner, crayon-like bullet with a narrow, slanted tip that hugs the lip line and makes them a doddle to apply. They come in a range of formulas and the two I got were both Matte X - the most matte and long wearing formula. So, I was expecting them to be pretty drying but they actually feel comfortable and lightweight on the lips. Crack Me Up is a pink-toned brown (way more pink than it looks online FYI) and my personal fav Pillow Talk is a medium brown which leans slightly cool-toned. Both of which are classic Lucy shades and I've been reaching for them whenever I want a matte lip that isn't as drying or intense as a liquid lipstick.

Last, but definitely not least, is the Yes Please eyeshadow palette. Oh my god. I am obsessed. I'm all about warm, orangey eyeshadow so the colours in this palette are perfect. I was so excited for the Urban Decay Naked Heat palette but since getting my hands on this Colourpop offering I'm no longer bothered. There's a beautiful mix of shimmery lid colours, warm crease shades, neutral bases, a dark brown for more dramatic looks and a couple of more adventurous shades like a bright yellow and pinky red. The formula of these shadows is smooth, pigmented and blendable and honestly better than that of palettes more than double the price. The only thing I'm not mad on is the packaging. The white cardboard doesn't feel particularly sturdy and attracts dirty, makeupy fingerprints. I'd also like for it to include a mirror but it is very slim and travel-friendly and for only $16 (!!!) I really can't complain.

Overall, I am so impressed with Colourpop - especially since most of their products are under $10. Next on my wishlist is some more Super Shock Highlighters, the Ultra Satin Lips and their brand new Concealer. The only catch is that ordering their products to the UK results in shipping and customs charges which can make your order significantly more expensive. Personally I feel like the quality and affordability of the products makes the extra charges worth it but if you'd like to avoid them the best way is to wait until they're offering free international shipping and then place several small orders (all under $15) because these won't be hit with customs charges. A bit of a faff but 100% worth it.

Have you tried anything from Colourpop?

Thanks for reading, Lucy x
